There are many natural things you can use to exfoliate your face or body. They are a good option to get DIY and mix it up a bit. You can add them to your normal skincare routine from time to time or use them regularly if you are on a budget.
Some exfoliating agents in nature are sugar, honey, lemon, coffee, salt, oatmeal, papaya, and many others. They are either scrubbing or have acids that help boost the skin’s natural exfoliation process and cell production.
Here are some easy recipes you can do at any time to exfoliate with simple ingredients you can find at home!
Be aware that the effect the exfoliator will have on you depends on your skin type, so make sure to check out our Exfoliation 101 (LINK) to choose the right recipe for you.
CLASSIC
First there’s a classic. This mix is full of antioxidants and antimicrobials. Sugar has glycolic acid, which can soften and smooth the skin. The lemon juice removes dead skin cells and honey speeds up the skin’s exfoliation process while providing moisture.
For this nourishing face scrub you’ll just need one teaspoon of sugar, half a teaspoon of honey and fresh lemon juice. Apply to clean face in gentle, circular motions, leave on for 7-10 minutes and then rinse with cool water.
EXFOLIATE & BOOST
For coffee lovers, mix one tablespoon of ground coffee with one tablespoon of water or olive oil.
This exfoliator will have anti-inflammatory effects and boost collagen production.
SENSITIVE SKIN
Now, for sensitive skin, here’s a gentle exfoliating mix using oatmeal. Use one tablespoon of ground oatmeal, 1/4 teaspoon of salt and one teaspoon of water.
Oatmeal is known to nourish and hydrate, soothing and healing many skin care issues, like acne, dry skin or sunburns. Leave these on for about 5 to 10 minutes and then rinse them off with warm water.
